Two weeks left!

Well, it's been a long-haul, but we're finally (almost!) there! In two weeks we jump into the world of Bedding and Breakfasting with both feet...or all 14 feet if you count our whole family (including Colleen, our kitty).

Me, Rhiannon, Wyatt, Grace, and Rod at Princess Cay in the Bahamas last April.

Colleen!!

I guess it'll be more than two weeks until we're up-and-running...more like two years or so, to be more precise! But two weeks from today, the deed on our new lakefront house will be signed over to us.

We weren't looking to move, in fact, just over a year ago we moved into our current house. We had it built in an up-and-coming subdivision here in Beamsville, Ontario, and had all the bells and whistles added to what we though was our dream home. It's a gorgeous house, there's no denying. Then, one day early this past summer, we had a bit of time to kill and decided to go for a little drive. "Let's go along Lakeshore Road" I said to Rod, my husband. "I've always loved it along there, it's so peaceful. It's like time stood still." So drive we did...and near the end of the road, tucked-away behind some ancient Maple trees and a lone Black Walnut standing sentry at the end of the driveway, we saw it. Our house.

Shall I bore you with the next three months of frustration, trying to sell our house? Maybe another time. Some of it's pretty funny, looking back. It's all in the past.

I like to think of the house as a diamond in the rough. At one point, I think Rod described it as a dog's breakfast. It is both of those things, and so much more. Some words that come to mind: eclectic, historic, money pit, great investment, soothing, peaceful, potential, charming, waiting...

I hope to use this blog to chart our progress in developing our home and our dream. Keep tabs...I won't post every day or even every week (Rome wasn't built in a day, right?!) but I will do my best to record what I can.
